BOBBY HARRISON: Wicker and Obama?

Filed under: Uncategorized — toddv @ 7:46 pm

JACKSON – In the who would have thunk it category, Republican senatorial candidate Roger Wicker is courting supporters of Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama.

It is difficult to believe because for most of the campaign Wicker has lambasted his Democratic opponent, Ronnie Musgrove, for supporting Obama.

Wicker has described Obama as the a liberal national Democrat who does not share the values of Mississippi. And he has said that is a reason not to support Musgrove.

But Wicker doesn’t have a problem with Obama supporters voting for him. Radio advertisements are running in support of Wicker where an African America woman says she is voting for Obama and Wicker.

BOBBY HARRISON:One debate not enough

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tags: — toddv @ 11:58 am

JACKSON – The Senate race between Republican Roger Wicker andĀ  Democrat Ronnie Musgrove has been described as a once-in-a-generationĀ  election.

If history is an indication, the winner of the Nov. 4 election will be in the United States Senate for decades.

Wicker and Musgrove will debate Friday night at Mississippi College School of Law. It will be televised in much of the state. And true, the presidential debate was on a Friday night last week.

But let’s be honest, Friday night during high school football season is not the opportune time to hold a debate in Mississippi. People who would watch the debate if they were at home will be at football games.
This election deserves more than one debate.

In 2007, Republican Gov. Haley Barbour, who was a heavy favorite, agreed to more than one debate against Democrat John Arthur Eaves.

Wicker and Musgrove should have more than one debate.

The voters deserve more than one debate. The election is too important.
