  • SB 2851 Mississippians deserve better beer

I’m writing today to see if I could enlist your support for SB 2851. It’s a bill that is attempting to raise the allowable percent alcohol in beer from 5% by weight to 17% by weight. The law, as it stands now, restricts over 80% of the top rated beers in the world from being sold in MS. MEBA has been working on this and it’s now crunch time. The bill has been referred to the Senate Finance committee and must receive favorable action by Tuesday, but it is on the agenda for this Thursday so it will live or die at that time. If you agree with our efforts it could be helpful if you made a post about it and encouraged people to call the members of this committee and voiced their support. For that matter, I’d love for you to be able to contact them as well.

I’ve attached some talking points we’ve drawn up to help people when speaking to their elected officials. You can also find more information at my blog post here, and the MSBrew blog here.

Thanks for your consideration in this and keep up the great blogging.

    Butch
